Good Times In Wichita Kansas

Last weekend I got to stretch my legs and play out to an open minded bar in Wichita Kansas called Heroes Sports Bar. And by open minded I mean the bar manager allowed me to play what ever I wanted to play. When I first heard of an opportunity, I jumped at the chance to book. All the other dj's had told me the place is packed by 11pm and is a party all night long.
Small recap here.. I was booked to play what ever wanted, with an established crowd, and get paid!? That's a win for me!

So I asked Shanna, my significant other, to snap pictures all night long. That didn't happen. I don't think she stopped dancing for more than five minutes and as a result, snapped some pretty low quality pictures of me having fun. Even though the pictures are unclear and hard to see, I should take it as a compliment. Shanna, who has heard me play so many times, still had fun and danced all night. So I liked to thank Corie Barlow, Heroes Sports Bar, Orlando (DJ Big O), and Shanna for making my night awesome.

First Wedding in the Books

Okay, So I finally performed a wedding for the first time in over two years. Overall I would say the event was a success. My little step sister was getting married and as my gift to her I dj'd her wedding.
So first things first, Its way too hot here in Oklahoma and I was excited to drive to Frankfort Kansas where the weather was forecasted to stay below 95 for the week. The family and I packed up and drove north to enjoy cooler weather.
Saturday rolls around and I'm at the church getting ready to play the ceremony music. Now I don't mind playing the ceremony music, but I personally enjoy listening to some light organ or piano inside a church. If I'm in charge of the music inside a church I feel it's too much power. But I kept my calm and the ceremony was no problem. The next task for me to accomplish? Finding the reception hall two towns away.
I show up at the reception, which was roughly 30 miles away from the church, prepared to play nothing but country all night. At least thats what I thought especially when all the formal dances are set to country music and the only fm radio station my van can receive is country. Well I'll talk more about the country later. The bride and I discussed about four months ago that I would do a grand entrance. It didn't happen. The bride and groom show up while I'm in the bathroom making sure my shirt is straight and my hair looks good. I decided I wouldn't let that ruin my night or anybody else's. Just to remind everyone, I have not performed a wedding in over two year so some things might have been overlooked.
I make it through all the formal things that happen at the reception. I think I'll toot my own horn here, but I think the all the formals went well. So TOOT TOOT. Now it's time for the party and all my country music I had planned for all these small town country folk. I guess I was thinking too small minded and should have looked at the bigger picture. The average age for this reception was 18. Plus almost everyone has the internet and can keep up with current music. I was actually stunned when I began to get request for brand new top 40 and hip hop. I wouldn't say hip hop music is my bread and butter but I feel more comfortable with the genre then country. I began to throw a party and people from all over started showing up. I was only scheduled to play till 10pm but everyone was having such a great time I ended up playing to midnight!!!! Nothing made my day more then the bride coming up and asking me to play longer because everyone was having so much fun.

Business Cards Are In....

Okay, so maybe this finally makes me official. I mean everyone respectable business has a card right? The reason it took me so long to obtain these bad boys? I could not find a design I liked. I think I searched for almost three months before coming across this company in England called Moo-print.com. I was looking for something young, fun, elegant and different. Different being the most important. Well I found that with moo-print. It's the first time I've had a card with my name so I'm a little geek'd out.

Now to recap and update everyone on my business venture. Actually how about a little on my background before we go further. I started working weddings while going to college as a part time gig. I find out that I have a natural instinct to entertain people. I continue weddings until I turn 21 and decide to work for a local club in Wichita, Ks. While working for this club I developed my Microphone and DJ skills. I decided to focus on learning the art of being an MC and mixing music together, while performing a wedding here and there. About two years ago I moved to OKC to open a new club. And then life changed, I was going to be a dad! So I stopped working at a club and started a career. which brings me to now. About six months back I began purchasing all the needed equipment. After I procured my equipment, I got my cards. SO I decided to display my card here to get some feed back. I hope you enjoy.

Working at the Wal-Mart, and First Post Ever!!!

After having a kid and living a some what rock star life, I decided to become a big boy and find a real "job".  A job with benefits. A job with a potential future. SO I guess I went out and tried to find a career.  What I found instead was a job at Wal-Mart.  I work only three days a week for 12 hours a day, filling orders for the various Wal-Mart and Sam's Clubs around the state.  I have to say my new job really isn't that bad.  I like having four days off to spend with Shanna and the girls.  Since I have so much free
time I've decided to get back into the DJ game.  Next week I will finally get my business cards and maybe that will make me official.  I promise I'll post a picture of the cards once they get here.  Well happy blogging to everybody!
